5 Day Film Making Residential Outline Timetable

Below is an outline timetable of all the activities for the week. Very occasionally changes may occur to publicised activities and the timetable due to circumstances beyond our control e.g. weather. We’ll endeavour to inform parents and students of any changes as soon as possible.

Sunday Timetable

  • 4pm – 6pm – Students arrive. Meet & Greet.
  • Students will be registered, given their student pack and shown to their rooms. They will meet our UK Film School Directors Gary Halliday and Jacqueline Edge, their Mentors and fellow students.
    Students can browse & buy our popular UK Film School hoodies, t-shirts and hats.
  • 6pm – 6.15pm Gary Halliday will welcome students and give a brief introduction to the course.
  • 6.15pm – 7pm – Supper
  • 7.15pm – 9.45pm – Film Screening. We’ll screen a classic, age appropriate, film for the students to enjoy and see how the best in the business work.

Monday Timetable

  • 8am – Breakfast
  • 9am – 12.30pm –  Introduction to the camera equipment, Health & Safety Briefing, Scriptwriting; How to write a good script. How to Storyboard. How to develop a script.
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 4pm – Brainstorm and pitch ideas for the film. Develop and understand the fundamentals of a story.
  • 4pm – 6pm – Free Time
  • 6.15pm – 7pm – Supper
  • 7pm – 9pm – Scriptwriting Masterclass and Crew Mentoring.

Tuesday Timetable

  • 8am – Breakfast
  • 9am – 12.30pm – Filmmaking; Cast roles. Organise costumes. Location scout.
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 4pm – Filmmaking; Read through script and rehearsals. How to block a script. How to direct and collaborate with actors.
  • 4pm – 6pm – Free Time
  • 6.15pm – 7pm – Supper
  • 7pm – 9pm – SFX Practical Workshop

Wednesday Timetable

  • 8am – Breakfast
  • 9am – 12.30pm – Filmmaking; Filming Day 1 – Learn the key elements of cinematography, including lighting, framing a shot, shooting for the edit.
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 4pm – Filmmaking; Explore how to work effectively with actors and other key crewmembers.
  • 4pm – 6pm – Free Time
  • 6.15pm – 7pm – Supper
  • 7pm – 9pm – Editing Workshop

Thursday Timetable

  • 8am – Breakfast
  • 9am – 12.30pm – Filmmaking; Filming Day 2 – Understand the roles of scriptwriter, continuity assistant, clapper loader, director, cinematographer and sound engineer by performing each of these roles.
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 4pm – Filmmaking; Explore the importance of each of the film crew’s roles on set & how they interact. How to shoot to the edit.
  • 4pm – 6pm – Free Time
  • 6.15pm – 7pm – Supper
  • 7pm – 9.45pm – Wrap Party and Awards Ceremony

Friday Timetable

  • 8am – Breakfast
  • 9am – 12.30pm – Filmmaking; Filming Day 3 – How to be decisive, stay flexible, solve problems & work to a deadline.
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm – 3pm – Filmmaking; Final Filming. How to work as a team and communicate effectively under pressure.
  • 3pm – Wrap. Crew Photos
  • Please ensure that all students are collected by latest 3.30pm
