What will students be doing during the course?
The course provides a creative and very practical experience of how the filmmaking process works. Our ethos is to treat students as a professional film crew from the outset. Students receive expert mentoring throughout the course and will be shown how to produce a film and use all the filmmaking equipment.
Student’s work in groups of a maximum of 12 (the ‘film crew’) and the film crew make a film from start to finish over the 5 days of the course.
The filmmaking runs from 9am until 4pm Monday to Friday.
Monday and Tuesday are pre-production days, which include an introduction to the filmmaking equipment with a Health and Safety briefing, pitching ideas for the film, script development, casting the film, scheduling the shoot and location scouting.
Wednesday through to Friday are filming days, during this time the student film crew will act in and film the scenes they devised during days 1 and 2.
The cast and crew are rotated during the 3 filming days so that everyone gets an opportunity to experience the many different aspects of filmmaking. The finished film footage is then taken away and edited at our studio.
Once the filmmaking has finished at 4pm students have some unsupervised free time before supper.
Students often use this time to relax and socialise with their group. During this time students are free to leave Hemmingford House if they wish provided that they are over the age of 13 and in groups of at least 3 students. Students aged 12 must be acompanied by one of our team. No one is allowed to be on his or her own. Students wishing to leave Hemmingford House during free time must sign out when they leave and sign in when they return for supper.
If you do NOT wish your son or daughter to be allowed to leave Hemmingford House in small groups without the supervision of an adult then please email Jacqueline Edge at email@example.com prior to the commencement of the course.
After supper the evenings are taken up with activities and an excursion. The excursion and activities are always planned, organised and risk assessed for safety. There is always a minimum of one adult to every 20 students during activities and on excursions.
On two evenings there are film related activities; an interactive SFX Make Up Workshop and an Acting to Camera & Filming Fight Scenes Workshop and on the other 3 evenings students enjoy a cinema night a walking tour through historic Stratford Upon Avon and a Wrap Party on the final night.
All the evening activities and excursion are included in the cost of the course.
